Hi everyone, welcome to my blog! I’d like to introduce myself to you all.
My name is Miguel Estrada, and I am a freshman at San Francisco State University. I am currently undeclared at the moment and I honestly don’t know what I will be majoring. I do have a slight interest in linguistics and possibly dance. This semester I have the opportunity to learn Arabic and also ballet and I find that both of those courses are actually really fun!
In regards to my topic, I chose to talk about the representation of the LGBTQ+ community in entertainment media. Being a gay youth myself, I find that entertainment media such as television shows or films often exclude people from the LGBTQ+ community. According to the US Census Bureau, the United States is populated by roughly 324 million individuals. From this population, only about 9 million people identify as LGBTQ+; this means that only 3.8% of the population identifies as anything other than heterosexual. I believe it’s time for entertainment media to move forward and become more inclusive.
Thanks for taking the time to see my blog, I hope everyone likes it!
